Frequent Questions

What is ActiveLink? ActiveLink is an integration engine that lets you create Data Integration and Migration Solutions. By enabling your legacy data and applications as distributable services, integration and migration becomes much easier. ActiveLink's ease of use and short learning curve can reduce ongoing support costs.
Can ActiveLink run on my hardware? ActiveLink can run on any hardware with an operating system that supports a Java 1.4 run-time.
What is the difference between ActiveLink and MD Link? MD Link is the version of ActiveLink supported by MDI Solutions, that includes HL7 plugin adapters, custom scripts and solutions specific to the health care industry. ActiveLink has applications in all industries.
What types of legacy data can ActiveLink integrate? Legacy systems come in all sorts of forms: text files, SQL databases and many others. See the list of Plugin Adapters. To create a new adapter for your unique data source, please contact ActiveLink Support.
Why don't I receive any Alerts? Check your Solution Properties and Task Alerts for correct SMTP and SMS settings. See Testing Solutions for differences when running solutions in the Studio, compared to the Server.
Why doesn't the ActiveLink Help window scroll using my mouse? The ActiveLink Help Window run from the Studio or the Windows Start Menu requires that you click inside the right-hand side Help content pane where you wish to scroll, then you can scroll. Also you can find the latest ActiveLink Help documents at http://www.activelink.activecore.com
When I run my solution, I get the error message "Failed to get a stylesheet for the component ...". What does this mean? This means that a Task has not been mapped. All Task must be mapped. See Data Mapping.
When I run my solution, I get the error message "MapperModel2: Exception thrown in appendXSLRule". What does this mean? This means that a custom XSLT template has syntax errors in it. See XML Templates.
When I start the Monitor, the Server doesn't show any solutions? Check that the Server has been started, and that your solution(s) are in the default directory data/solutions.
What's the difference between Data Mapping and Scripting?

Where All Tasks must be Mapped. Scripting is available via the Custom Task only, but may precede or follow any other type of Task.
How XML Stylesheet Language Templates (XSLT, XPath) Python, Java
Why is it called Data Scripting? Scripting in ActiveLink is not free form - the code must run in a Solution, fired by an Event and be part of a Transaction. The script operates on data passed to the Custom Task and may be passed to subsequent Tasks.
